Leeds United are looking to keep climbing the table after leapfrogging Spurs with a draw at Chelsea, and Crystal Palace could be in freefall.
Daniel Farke deserves enormous credit for keeping Leeds clear of the relegation zone. Our form, coinciding with West Ham’s resurgence, has opened the survival fight right up.
As high as 13th-placed Crystal Palace are still looking over their shoulders. And, the Eagles ongoing managerial turmoil doesn’t help their case.
Fabrizio Romano drops huge update on Oliver Glasner’s Crystal Palace future
The hope for Leeds is that those sides around us continue to be burdened by European commitments, which includes Conference League Palace.
Travelling to Bosnia on Thursday, Oliver Glanser’s side continued to trudge in Europe with a 1-1 draw against Zrinjski Mostar. It leaves the Eagles fans’ relationship with the Austrian tarnished even further despite less than a year since their FA Cup triumph.
As a result, Fabrizio Romano revealed internal discussions are ongoing at Selhurst Park over a possible immediate decision on Glasner’s position.
He was confirmed to be leaving the club at the end of the season, but his departure could be fast-tracked as his relationship with the club has turned incredibly sour at an alarming speed.
Since then, Romano has shared that discussions have led to Palace insisting they intend to keep Glasner on for the remainder of the campaign. That decision could well change if Palace’s slide continues.
Former Leeds United coach Robbie Keane eyed as Crystal Palace’s Oliver Glasner replacement
This potential looming exit leaves Palace pondering a replacement that can keep them in the Premier League. Sitting two points above Leeds, Palace are eight clear of the relegation zone as things stand with just one win and six points gained since December 7th.
Should they dismiss Glasner, one of the leading candidates for the job is former Leeds coach and player Robbie Keane – per talkSPORT’s Alex Crook.
It’s claimed that the 45-year-old is earmarked as an option to replace Glasner. Keane is currently in charge of Ferencváros in Hungary, who are currently in the Europa League playoffs, 2-1 down to Ludogorets after the first leg.
Keane played for Leeds between 2001-2002, scoring 19 in 56 appearances. He returned to the club briefly as a coach, part of Sam Allardyce’s four-game tenure in May 2023 before our relegation.
Are Crystal Palace in Premier League freefall amidst Robbie Keane links?
Keane has earned his stripes since leaving Leeds in 2023. So, Palace are looking at him purely on merit as opposed to being a well-known Premier League name.
He won silverware with Maccabi Tel Aviv before moving to Hungary. There, he again won the league title while also proving to be competitive in Europe as well.
However, coming into such a toxic environment this late in the season is a tall order for Keane, or anyone.
For Leeds looking on, Palace, Forest and Spurs all changing (or considering) managers would be really ideal for our aims of stability.
