Liverpool's top 10 Premier League assisters as Mohamed Salah aims for top spot vs Nottingham Forest

Mohamed Salah can move clear at the top of Liverpool’s all-time Premier League assist chart on Sunday as the Reds face Nottingham Forest.

The Egyptian crossed for Virgil van Dijk to score last time out against Sunderland, moving him level with the great Steven Gerrard on 92 assists.

It seems inevitable that Salah will break the record whether it is in Nottingham or elsewhere, and as the veteran prepares to take another Liverpool crown, Rousing The Kop count down the top 10 Premier League assisters in the Reds history.

Got a horrible feeling Slot is going to keep Gakpo in the XI and drop Salah 😬 Who should be the front four vs Forest?

=10. Robbie Fowler – 30 assists

One of Liverpool’s all-time great goal-scorers, Robbie Fowler was less well known for laying the ball off for his teammates to score.

Nevertheless, the Scouser still managed 30 Premier League assists, putting him one ahead of the great John Barnes in joint 10th position.

=10. Michael Owen – 30 assists

Ever since they broke through from the Liverpool academy within close quarters, Fowler and Michael Owen have been compared.

Owen thinks he was better than Fowler and has not been shy in asserting it, with his former strike partner inevitably feeling the exact opposite. In terms of assists, there was nothing to separate them, with Owen also hitting 30.

8. Philippe Coutinho – 35 assists

Philippe Coutinho has been in the news this week after cancelling his contract at boyhood club Vasco da Gama.

It feels a long time since ‘the little magician’ was pulling the strings at Anfield, but it is no surprise to see him relatively high up on this list, with 35 Premier League assists.

7. Jordan Henderson – 45 assists

If it is a surprise to see Fowler and Owen make the list, then it is perhaps equally as much of a shock that Jordan Henderson sits as high as he does.

Never a prolific player in terms of goal contributions, it is perhaps Henderson’s longevity which sets him apart, and the former captain ultimately managed a more than respectable 45 assists.

6. Roberto Firmino – 50 assists

Another striker to make the list, Roberto Firmino was much more of a creator than any of the No. 9s who came before him at Liverpool.

Tasked with getting the most out of Salah and Sadio Mane, the Brazilian did his job to perfection, ending his eight-year spell at Anfield having created half a century of Premier League goals.

5. Andy Robertson – 56 assists*

The second current Liverpool player on this list, Andy Robertson still has a chance to work his way a little higher.

Robertson may leave the Reds this summer, so does not have too many opportunities left to add to his impressive haul of 56.

4. Steve McManaman – 58 assists

The one player in Robertson’s sights will be Steve McManaman, whose Liverpool career arguably deserves greater respect.

‘Macca’ will always be remembered for moving to Real Madrid on a free transfer in 1999, but before that he ran rings around Premier League defences, and was largely responsible for providing the bullets for Fowler in particular.

Anyone else getting that sinking feeling ahead of Sunday?

Why are we SO bad against Forest?

3. Trent Alexander-Arnold – 64 assists

During his many years in the Liverpool first-team, Trent Alexander-Arnold would often battle with Robertson for supremacy in the assist stakes.

Sitting eight ahead of his former teammate, the now Real Madrid right-back looks likely to claim the victory having registered just about every form of assist he possibly could.

=1. Steven Gerrard – 92 assists

If a portion of the rest of the top 10 are reasonably close together, then Gerrard and Salah are lightyears ahead.

Almost 30 clear of his closest competitor, Gerrard was the ultimate teammate at Liverpool. He could win a game all by himself with a blockbuster of a goal, or lay one on a plate for someone else – often Fernando Torres – to score. A player who does not deserve to be second in any Liverpool list.

=1. Mohamed Salah – 92*

Sadly for Gerrard, he will soon be bumped down to outright second here, but if he is to lose to anyone, then it should be Salah.

The Egyptian has been a model of consistency since joining the Reds in 2017, and if he is to leave Liverpool in 2026, he will be desperate to get as close to 100 as he possibly can.

Forest is his first chance to get one step closer and claim this title all for himself. You would not bet against him to do it.
