Aston Villa are now set to hold talks to sign a former Chelsea star who Unai Emery described as "fantastic" recently.
Villa looking to strengthen in attack
Although Villa are flying high in the Premier League, currently in third place, it would be fair to say they didn't get all of their transfer business right last summer, with Evann Guessand joining Crystal Palace on loan just a few months after his arrival.
Harvey Elliott has also been unable to make an impact at Villa Park, with Emery confirming he doesn't want to sign the attacking midfielder on a permanent basis, saying: "We decided two months ago that we are not convinced to sign him, spending the money we would need to sign him.
Emery went on to add: "This is not something good for him and good for us, but this is football and sometimes we must take some decisions which are not good for everyone."
It would appear as though the Liverpool loanee is set to return to Anfield this summer, but one of the Villans' different loan signings may have done enough to earn a permanent move.
According to a report from TEAMtalk, Aston Villa are planning to open talks to sign Manchester United loanee Jadon Sancho, who is attracting widespread interest from across the continent, with Borussia Dortmund, AC Milan and Napoli also keen.
Emery has been left impressed by Sancho's performances, saying earlier this month: "He is a fantastic player. Hopefully, he can help us by increasing his qualities in our structure, like he is doing.

"He will need another contract, and maybe it could be here. If he plays his best football, we will want him. But also other teams could be involved in the interest for him."
Sancho starting to force his way into Emery's plans
It is no surprise Villa are set to hold talks to sign the 25-year-old, given that he is clearly high in Emery's thinking, starting the last four Premier League games, and grabbing an assist in the 1-1 draw against AFC Bournemouth.
The former Chelsea star hasn't had the easiest of rides in England, with the Blues opting not to sign him on a permanent basis, despite contributing two goals and five assists in eight matches en-route to Europa Conference League glory last season.

NSWE have splashed the cash in recent years.
However, the winger is still relatively young, and he is starting to show glimpses of his former self, with Wayne Rooney praising the Englishman for his performance in the 2-1 victory against Chelsea in December, saying: "Jadon Sancho came into this as well, and we haven't seen much of him this season, but I thought he was excellent when he came on.
"Getting the ball, driving with the ball and committing the Chelsea defenders and then they had runners, they had Morgan Rogers making runs in behind."
That said, with Sancho still searching for his first Premier League goal of the season, Aston Villa should continue to monitor his performances between now and the summer, instead of making any rash moves.
