Wrexham are poised to make what would be an ambitious move, as they look to beat a host of Premier League sides to the signature of a former Liverpool forward.
Wrexham burst into Championship play-off contention
There are stories in football, and then there is Wrexham.
What Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney have engineered at the Racecourse Ground since taking over the club in 2021 belongs in a category entirely of its own.

From the National League to the Championship in three breathless seasons, each promotion more unlikely than the last, the Red Dragons have become one of the most remarkable clubs in world football.
And now, in their first season in the second tier for 40 years, they are refusing to be satisfied with just turning up.
Wrexham sit seventh in the Championship table, level on goal difference with the sides above them in the play-off places, and daring to believe that a fourth consecutive promotion could yet be on the cards.

All the information on Wrexham AFC's players and how much they earn.
It would be unprecedented. It would be almost impossible to believe. And yet here they are, still very much in the conversation with the season approaching its final stretch.
The club won promotion from League One last May to reach the Championship for the first time since 1981-82, capping three extraordinary back-to-back promotions.
Now Phil Parkinson's side are holding their own against seasoned second-tier opponents, fighting for a play-off spot that could take them to the very top table of English football.
And the people running Wrexham are already thinking about what comes next.

In January, the Welsh side were contending with some of the Premier League for top players, which is a clear sign of their ambitions moving forward.
That ambition remains, and according to TEAMtalk's Graeme Bailey, they want to sign a boyhood Wrexham supporter.
As per the report, the club have identified their dream first Premier League signing — and it is one written straight from the pages of a football fairy-tale.
Fulham-Harry-Wilson
Wrexham are working on a move for Fulham winger Harry Wilson this summer, should they secure promotion, and the player himself is understood to be open to making it happen given his Racecourse connections.
Wilson is a Wrexham boy through and through.
The ex-Liverpool winger grew up attending games at the Racecourse with his uncle and cousin, and the club has always held a deep personal significance for him.
The idea of representing his hometown side in the Premier League is, by all accounts, one he finds genuinely compelling.
On the pitch, his credentials are impossible to question.
The 28-year-old has been enjoying his finest season in the top flight at Fulham, chipping in with eight goals and four assists and firmly establishing himself as one of the better wide players outside the big six.

His contract situation, however, remains unresolved, with talks over a new deal failing to gain traction and an exit increasingly likely when the season concludes.
As a result, Wrexham are poised to make a 'stunning' free transfer move for Wilson, despite the likes of Leeds, Sunderland and Everton all 'pushing hard' to sign him as well.
None of those alternative destinations carry anything close to the emotional pull of Wrexham.
The caveat, of course, is significant. None of this happens unless they get over the promotion line. The play-off push is very much alive, but there is work still to do.
For Wilson and Wrexham fans alike, the next few months could not matter more.
