The Seagulls aim to give their season a timely lift as they tackle a tough Premier League fixture at Brentford today.
Murray says confidence will have taken a hit due to results in recent weeks.
But he sees good underlying trends in their performances.
Asked how he would have played himself out of such a rut in his playing days, the former Albion frontman said: “Me personally, I would strip it back to basics as in a striker of scoring goals.
“Sometimes you get lost in your own mind.
“But, as far as this squad is concerned, I have watched most of their games this season.
“And I even think that their recent performances have generally been good. They really have.
“They probably haven't got the rewards they deserve and that can be that can dent you in a certain way as well.
"When you get a look at stats and you break the games down, they are positive.
“As long as those positive stats remain and that performance level remains, then that will turn for us.”
