Former Leeds United, Tottenham and Celtic star a 'contender' for Premier League manager job as…

The former Leeds United and Tottenham man has not hidden his Celtic affinity in the past.

A former Celtic star has been linked with becoming a Premier League manager - just months after the ex Leeds United and Tottenham ace was rumoured to be a Hoops head coach contender.

Crystal Palace are headed for changes in the dugout with Oliver Glasner leaving this summer, but the German boss who won them the FA Cup and guided them to European football could be sacked ahead of time, amid poor results. That has sparked a frenzy over who could come next and Ferencvaros boss Robbie Keane has been mentioned.

He is well known in England for a glittering playing career with the likes of Wolves, Leeds United, Tottenham and Liverpool. He is a boyhood Celtic fan and the former Republic of Ireland international joined the Hoops on loan in 2010, linked with becoming manager late last year after Brendan Rodgers’ shock resignation.

Who could become the next manager of Crystal Palace?

Now amid impressive work in Hungary at Ferencvaros, who defeated Rangers in the Europa League this season, the former Leeds United, Tottenham and Celtic man is said to be in the Palace frame to replace Glasner. Reporting states: “Robbie Keane is a contender to replace Oliver Glasner at Crystal Palace manager, talkSPORT understands.

“The Eagles are considering firing Glasner after a run of one win in 15 games in all competitions. Tottenham Hotspur and Republic of Ireland legend Keane has impressed the Eagles hierarchy during his time in charge of Ferencvaros. The 45-year-old has been in charge of the Hungarian outfit since January 2025 - guiding them to the top-flight title last term.

“His side are currently second in the table this season, and remain in the Europa League. Palace are acting fast in sounding out possible replacements should they part ways with Glasner. And Keane's stellar CV since his first managerial job in 2023 has put him on the club's radar. Palace aren't the only Premier League club that have monitored Keane this season. talkSPORT told you last week how Keane was on Spurs' radar as a possible interim following Thomas Frank's sacking.”

Robbie Keane on Celtic

Keane was forced into addressing speculation surrounding the Celtic job as he prepared his Ferencvaros team to take on Rangers in Europe, having also managed Maccabi Tel Aviv in Israel. He said at that time prior to Wilfried Nancy’s disastrous tenure sparking a return for Martin O’Neill: "I can't help speculation. My mind is here, I'm very happy.

“It's been a successful year, we won the league last year, we're doing well in Europe now, top of the league so I'm really enjoying it here. There are good people here. Sir Alex Ferguson always said to me go to a club with good people and this club is very well run. I couldn't be happier here.

“You can never say never in football. I'm one of those guys who can never think too far ahead. I have to concentrate on what I do here because if you take your eye off the ball, you start losing games and you lose your job."
