Leeds United to be humbled as long-term transfer target to deliver brutal snub to the 49ers

Harry Wilson

Leeds United could have had a much better summer transfer window if things went their way. The club spent over £100 million on 10 players ahead of their return to the Premier League.

The club recruited multiple players adding depth and quality across the squad. But due to PSR, their late window attempts to sign some targets failed; one of them being Fulham star Harry Wilson. The Whites were not satisfied with the attacking additions in the window, and pushed for a deadline day move for the Welsh international.

Fulham pulled the plug at the last minute to keep the attacking midfielder in London this campaign.

Harry Wilson could choose Championship club over Leeds United

Harry Wilson has been a key player in Fulham’s successes this season – scoring eight goals and providing four assists in the Premier League this season. In a recent interview, he mentioned that he was happy to stay in London on deadline day, but declined to comment over his future.

His contract with Fulham ends this summer, and even though the club have approached him over a renewal, nothing has been agreed. Now, TEAMtalk is reporting that the 28-year old is a marquee target for Wrexham. The Championship side are keen on making the attacking midfielder their priority this summer if they are able to win promotion to the Premier League.

It may sound like a far fetched move, but Wilson grew up as a Wrexham supporter and would enticed by the prospect of playing for his boyhood club. He spoke about his connection to the club in 2024, hinting that a move cannot be ruled out in the future:

“It’s not just the football team that is on the up but it’s the town as well and it’s great to see being a local lad.” he told the Guardian.

“The takeover has been huge for the community as a whole.”

Would be a humbling experience for the Whites

Harry Wilson choosing Wrexham over Leeds United would be a huge disappointment. The Whites are a much bigger club with better future prospects than the Championship side who only gained relevancy after new investment. If this news is true, it should inspire the club to secure their status in the Premier League for next season.

A position in the top flight is the ultimate chip to persuade players to sign; just look at what happened this summer – top players chose Elland Road to play in the Premier League. The 49ers were able to attract top internationals like Jaka Bijol, Gabriel Gudmundsson and a top level striker in Dominic Calvert-Lewin to play for them this season. So if they want to stand any chance of landing Harry Wilson, they must finish outside the relegation zone.
