Arne Slot was given the perfect omen for Sunday's trip to the City Ground after Liverpool's Under-21s won 3-0 at Nottingham Forest on Friday night.
Kieran Morrison was the star of the show for Rob Page's side at Loughborough University Stadium as the Northern Irish winger scored twice while also supplying January arrival Noah Adekoya for his first goal for his new club.
Morrison gave the visitors the lead with a superb free-kick that curled past Forest goalkeeper George Murray-Jones. And the winger, who made his senior debut in October's Carabao Cup defeat to Crystal Palace, then provided a clipped cross for Adekoya to steer home.

It was Adekoya's first goal for the Reds since moving from Burnley last month. The new signing was one of four young centre-backs the club completed deals for in January, with the teenager arriving alongside Senegal youth international Mor Talla Ndiaye. The pair will be joined in the Academy ranks this summer by Ifeanyi Ndukwe, from Austria Vienna, while £60m capture Jeremy Jacquet will immediately join the first-team ranks.
Morrison's second arrived via another set-piece, with the wideman curling home past Murray-Jones directly from a corner kick inside the final 10 minutes. Morrison, who has featured in six match-day squads for Slot's team, now has 11 goals and six assists in his 20 appearances for the U21s.
Trey Nyoni and Calvin Ramsay played just over an hour each and could be involved in the match-day squad on Sunday when the senior side travel to Forest in the Premier League. Rio Ngumoha was not involved, however. Page's young Reds return to the Kirkby Academy on March 1, when they host Tottenham Hotspur in Premier League 2.
