Former England and Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher is seemingly unable to make toast, his wife has admitted. The 48-year-old, who notched up 508 appearances for The Reds and got 38 England caps, even boasts about his ‘talents’ for making wife Nicola a cup of tea.

Speaking this week, Nicola Carragher, 45 — who grew up just along the road from Jamie in Liverpool — said he was ‘useless’ in the kitchen. The mum-of-two, who was Jamie’s childhood sweetheart, said he ‘had his faults’, but was ‘the best dad in the world’.

She said: “He has never cooked a meal in his life…he can't even make toast. When I was pregnant he made me a cup of tea and was walking around like he'd just cooked a three-star Michelin dinner.”

She said Carra, however, isn't messy around the house, adding: “All his clothes are arranged by colour and his toiletries are in straight lines.” Jamie said he and Nicola had been together for a long time, adding: “We've been together for the best part of 30 years now and I'm really proud of that.

“It doesn't always happen in football or if you've got a bit of a profile. That said, I was never a superstar so the press weren't interested in us.”

He also revealed how when other WAGS were talking about their nannies, he and Nicole thought they were talking about their grandmothers. He said: “When we were on those England trips and (players) mentioned their nannies, me and Nicola thought they were talking about grandmas.”

Last month, Carrgher claimed his family members all had their Evertontattoos "taken off" after being questioned by a fan. The former centre-back made over 500 appearances for the Reds where he stayed for the entirety of his 17-year career, having come up through the academy.

But with Carragher openly admitting that he was a supporter of bitter cross-city rivals Everton as a youngster, various rumours have emerged over the years of the former England defender having Everton tattoos. A curious fan took to the social media site to ask the former Liverpool captain whether he and his relatives indeed had a tattoo of the Everton badge on them.

Carragher, responded: “No!! We all got our tattoos taken off!”

Rumours of Carragher having an Everton tattoo on his arm gathered steam among the Blues faithful due to his commitment to wearing long-sleeved tops as a player. He previously stated it “wasn’t true” that he had one on his arm, though he never ruled out having one elsewhere on his body.

But despite his seeming love for the Toffees, he revealed in his autobiography — released in 2009 ― that something switched within him and he instead wanted to beat them more than any other team. He eventually switched sides and soon became a full-blown Liverpool backer by the time he retired from professional football in 2013.
