Newcastle United had a goal disallowed in their 2-1 defeat away to Manchester City.

Burn headed home what he thought was an equaliser on the brink of half-time, only to see his celebrations cut short by the offside flag.

The Magpies are set to seek clarification on why the goal was ruled out after replays showed Burn was shoved into an offside position by Ruben Dias.

“I only saw it from the viewpoint that I thought he was offside, so I didn't see the push because I'm looking at a still frame really,” Eddie Howe said. “But yeah, he might be able to tell me more.”

Meanwhile, Burn wondered if he was perhaps punished for being too honest by staying on his feet.

Burn said: “Yeah, I've not seen it again, to be honest. I felt sort of a push on the back and I think maybe if I'm a little bit better with it I could probably make more of a meal of it, but I'm not great at doing that!

“I've not seen it back, but as I said, someone said that I was pushed and it's quite hard to get back on the side once you've been sort of pushed offside. So it was just one of them.”

Newcastle fell behind in the game in the 14th minute through Nico O’Reilly’s striker before the midfielder restored Man City’s lead just five minutes after Lewis Hall equalised.

The Magpies pushed for another equaliser in the second-half but for all their possession lacked a cutting edge.

Burn said: “Yeah, disappointed to be honest. I thought that's probably the best we've came out and played at City.

“I think if you come to City and they sort of play through you amazingly and score wonder goals, you sort of hold your hands up a little bit, but the goals were conceded. I'm disappointed from our point of view.

“First one, sort of a goal kick that's been knocked down and within sort of three passes they've scored. So I said disappointed, but listen, I think that's the best we've played and on another day the result could have been different.”
