Report: Nottingham Forest want Arsenal gem on loan and Pierre van Hooijdonk could help

Former Nottingham Forest striker Pierre van Hooijdonk is currently working in the world of player representation with PUM, and he could now help the Reds land Arsenal goalkeeper Tommy Setford.

With Matz Sels in his advancing years as a goalkeeper and Stefan Ortega only signing on a short-term deal, there will be a requirement for a new stopper in the summer transfer window.

John Victor is currently injured, and it feels likely that he might head back to Brazil during the summer window after some erratic performances between the posts.

Nottingham Forest want Tommy Setford

According to reports, Forest are weighing up a loan move for Setford ahead of the 2026/27 campaign, with Arsenal keen to get the player some invaluable minutes.

Setford has played twice for the Arsenal senior ranks since arriving from Ajax, including last weekend when he was introduced in the closing stages of the FA Cup thrashing of Wigan.

The 19-year-old is clearly rated highly at Arsenal, and it’s probably unsurprising that the Gunners are not willing to sell him when his ceiling remains so high.

Setford has been a regular with the junior ranks at the Emirates Stadium this season, and now, Van Hooijdonk will help him secure a summer transfer.

Forest need to avoid Matt Turner mistake

When it comes to signing Setford, there aren’t really too many similarities with the Turner debacle when he signed for the club in the summer of 2023.

Setford is a youngster with vast potential, whilst Turner always looked like a mediocre signing, given his inability to hold down a regular place in the Arsenal team.

Turner was completely hapless at Forest and in the eyes of some fans, he might go down as one of the worst goalkeepers to ever play for the club.

It feels highly unlikely that Setford would be viewed in the same way and the only disappointment with this link is that it’d be a loan rather than a permanent deal.
