West Brom have a big decision to make regarding their managerial situation
West Brom are ‘considering’ the future of manager Eric Ramsay, according to talkSPORT. They are yet to win in eight games since their decision to appoint him back in January. The Midlands outfit picked the ex-Minnesota United man as their replacement for Ryan Mason.
The Baggies lost 2-0 at home to league leaders Coventry City on Saturday. They are sat in 21st position in the table with 13 fixtures left to play. Here is a look at some managers they could consider if Ramsay is sacked...
West Brom could turn to familiar EFL faces
West Brom would have to weigh up their options carefully if they opt to dismiss Ramsay. Marti Cifuentes has recently become available following his departure from Leicester City. The Spaniard did a decent enough job during his days at QPR and is experienced in the Championship.
Will Still and Alan Sheehan are out of work following their sackings by Southampton and Swansea City respectively earlier this season. Meanwhile, Russell Martin remains without a club since he was given the chop by Rangers in October. He lasted only three months at Ibrox so may feel like he has a point to prove now.
There are more ambitious options out there for the Baggies. Sean Dyche, Gary O’Neil and Steven Gerrard have all managed in the Premier League. Millwall’s Alex Neil and Preston North End’s Paul Heckingbottom have both done some impressive work but they are unlikely to leave right now.
Other West Brom managerial candidates
If West Brom look down the abroad route, Jon Dahl Tomasson has managed Blackburn Rovers in the past. Meanwhile, ex-Sheffield Wednesday man Carlos Carvalhal and former Crystal Palace head coach Patrick Viera are unattached. The latter has also had spells at New York City, OGC Nice, Strasbourg and Genoa.
Elsewhere, Michael Skubala, Brian Barry-Murphy and Dave Challinor have all caught the eye in League One. Skubala’s Lincoln City and Barry-Murphy’s Cardiff City occupy the top two in the third tier. Meanwhile, Challinor has guided Stockport County up the leagues over recent years as they aim to get promoted again this term via the play-offs.
