Tottenham are hoping to bring in a new striker to compete with Dominic Solanke next season
Tottenham are determined to preserve their top-flight status this season as they face the genuine threat of relegation from the Premier League. The Lilywhites remain stuck in the bottom half of the table, having won just two of their last 17 league matches. That alarming run of form ultimately led the North Londoners to part ways with Thomas Frank midway through the campaign and appoint Igor Tudor as his interim replacement.
Despite the change in the dugout, several glaring issues within the squad still need to be addressed in the summer. Chief among them is the lack of adequate competition in the #9 role. At present, Dominic Solanke is the first-choice striker at N17 following his encouraging performances since returning from an ankle injury. The England international has looked sharp and has scored four goals in his last eight appearances.
However, Solanke is currently the only dependable goal-scorer in Spurs’ ranks. His strike partner Richarlison remains sidelined after sustaining a hamstring injury during the club’s FA Cup clash against Aston Villa in January. Meanwhile, summer loanee Randal Kolo Muani has struggled to make an impact since arriving from PSG. The Frenchman is yet to open his Premier League account and has delivered underwhelming displays for much of the season.

It is therefore unsurprising that Tottenham are targeting a new striker in the upcoming transfer window. With Randal Kolo Muani set to return to PSG once his loan spell concludes, and Richarlison potentially heading for the exit as well, the Lilywhites have little choice but to sign a direct replacement who can compete with Dominic Solanke for a place in the starting eleven.
According to TEAMtalk, Spurs are monitoring Al-Hilal forward Darwin Nunez. The Uruguay international has slipped down the pecking order at the Saudi club following the arrival of Karim Benzema. As a result, he has struggled for consistent minutes and is now viewed as the second-choice striker. Nunez has also been left out of Al-Hilal’s Pro League and Cup squad due to the league’s strict foreign player quota.
Securing his signature, however, will not be straightforward for the Lilywhites. The same report claims that Newcastle United are also interested in acquiring his services as they look to strengthen their attacking options for next season. Another significant hurdle is Nunez’s wage demands, with the Uruguayan reportedly earning around £400,000-a-week at Al-Hilal. A return to the Premier League would likely require him to accept a pay cut, as few English clubs would be able to meet such high salary expectations.
A good buy for Tottenham?
Signing Darwin Nunez could prove to be a smart move for the North Londoners. He already boasts Premier League experience from his time at Liverpool, where he helped the club secure the league title. The prolific forward is renowned for his work rate, physical presence, and link-up play. He would provide strong competition for Solanke and is versatile enough to operate in wide areas if required.
Nunez is approaching his peak years, and Spurs supporters could witness the best version of him should he return to the Premier League. He would add a different dimension in the final third, enabling the Lilywhites to vary their attacking approach through his technical ability and intelligent runs into the channels. Whether Darwin Nunez eventually dons a Spurs jersey remains to be seen. Only time will tell.
