Who scored highly for Albion in their win at Brentford?

This is how they fared as individuals.

Bart Verbruggen 7.5/10

A welcome clean sheet which he secured with a very sharp save from Veltman’s inadvertent touch. Coped well on set-pieces but is marked down slightly for a poor pass early on which might have been costly.

Mats Wieffer 8/10

A very good return at right-back, despite being on a yellow card for most of the game, and dealt well with the added threat of Schade in the second half.

Jan Paul van Hecke 8.5/10

Excellent at the back and constructive in possession, including a part in the second goal.

Lewis Dunk 8/10

A commanding and composed presence at the back, especially as the high balls came in. Thiago hurried his one clear chance.

Ferdi Kadioglu 8/10

Set the ball rolling with his superb curler off the underside of the bar for the first goal and, after a recent lull, gave an all-action display down his side.

James Milner 9/10

A keep-it-simple midfield masterclass with shrewd passes, constant covering and movement, a couple of nice turns and, it appeared, incessant instruction and encouragement. His passing was in evidence on the early Mitoma chance and the first goal.

Pascal Gross 7/10

Given a more withdrawn role and it appeared he had a quiet game but will have been an important cog in the overall machine. Drilled a shot at Kelleher in the second half.

Jack Hinshelwood 7/10

The more advanced midfielder as part of a plan drawn up for the occasion and, after surprising Kelleher with a shot and sending Mitoma in with a clever header, he played a big role in the second goal.

Diego Gomez 8/10

A cleanly struck shot from an unexpected rebound ended Albion’s wait for a goal and settled everyone nicely. The work rate is always there and he was a great presence on the right, although he might have been taken off at the right time just after conceding a needless free-kick.

Kaoru Mitoma 7/10

Great movement for an early chance but a couple of tame finishes. This was more like it though – underlined by the fact he forced a yellow card in the final moments of the game.

Danny Welbeck 7.5/10

A good part of the overall plan. Thumped home an emphatic finish and also did good work in build-up and defending.

SUBS – Joel Veltman 6/10

Went on for Wieffer and, after settling quickly, had a couple of dodgy moments near the end.

Max De Cuyper and Carlos Baleba N/A

Both given warm welcomes by the noisy away fans as they went on for late roles.
