Newcastle United now hold a concrete interest in signing an "incredible" Premier League player, who has emerged as a major summer target.

Magpies keen on signing Wolves star after Man City defeat

Newcastle have had some very tough fixtures over the past few weeks, taking on the likes of Aston Villa, Liverpool and Manchester City, but they will still be disappointed to have taken just three points from their last four matches.

Most recently, the Magpies fell to a 2-1 defeat against Man City at the Etihad Stadium, but Eddie Howe wasn't too disheartened by the result, praising his side for putting in a "strong" performance.

Lewis Hall was particularly impressive, scoring his side's only goal, and the left-back has featured in every single of Howe's side's Premier League matches since recovering from a hamstring injury at the end of October.

However, according to a report from Football Insider, the number of injuries Hall sustains is a concern for the St. James' Park outfit, and they are now looking to bring in additional depth at left-back.

Wolverhampton Wanderers star Hugo Bueno is now a major summer target for Newcastle, with scouts closely monitoring the left-back's performances.

Wolves' Hugo Bueno

The Magpies hold a concrete interest in signing the defender, who has emerged as a key player for Wolves this season, after spending the 2024-25 campaign out on loan at Feyenoord.

Having now made 67 Premier League appearances, the Vigo-born defender is now experienced in England, showcasing his attacking talent against Arsenal earlier this month.

Bueno scored the goal to ignite Wolves' comeback against the Premier League leaders, with his side going on to draw 2-2.

"Incredible" Bueno could be solid option for Newcastle

Once lauded as "incredible" by former Wolves director Matt Hobbs, the Spaniard has been an important player for Rob Edwards' side this season, making 24 appearances in the Premier League, and he has been one of their most consistent performers.

The 23-year-old has averaged a FotMob match rating of 6.77 in the Premier League, the second-highest in the Old Gold squad, and he has averaged 1.5 interceptions per 90, more than any other Wolves player.

He could partner Thiaw.

Fortunately, it appears as though Hall has put his injury issues in the rearview mirror, but the Wolves star has proven he could be a solid signing for Newcastle, at least as a back-up option to the 21-year-old.

With Alex Murphy, who is still inexperienced, the only natural back-up available to Howe at left-back, Newcastle could do with bringing in a new option during the summer, and Bueno is proven in the Premier League.
