Everton wanted him in 2022, now he could go to the World Cup with England

Everton were actually exploring a move to sign Alex Scott during the summer of 2022.

Then manager Frank Lampard was on the lookout for a midfielder, and Scott was flourishing for Bristol City in the Championship.

According to the Daily Mail, Everton were big admirers of the young Englishman, but they failed to push through a deal.

Where do you stand on Braiden Graham… would you give him his debut? 🎯

Scott was on a contract until 2025, so Bristol were likely demanding a substantial transfer fee, which the Toffees evidently weren’t willing to pay.

They must really regret that decision now, as he’s becoming one of the best midfielders in the Premier League at Bournemouth.

Former Everton target Alex Scott could go to the World Cup with England

Bournemouth snapped up Scott’s signature during the summer of 2023, paying Bristol around £25m.

Since then, the former Everton target has established himself as a genuine contender for the England squad.

In fact, Scott received his first senior call-up in the last international break, but Thomas Tuchel didn’t give him his debut.

Ahead of the March camp, the Bournemouth star has given himself a great chance of getting his first cap, and the World Cup looks like a very realistic proposition.

In hindsight, it goes down as yet another transfer blunder by Everton, who seem to miss out on so many targets that end up becoming world beaters.

Everton were on the verge of signing Khvicha Kvaratskhelia in 2021, and now he’s a world-class winger at Paris Saint-Germain.

The Toffees also famously turned down a £60k deal to sign Erling Haaland after he completed a four-day trial at Finch Farm.

Alexander Isak was even linked with a move to Goodison Park in 2016, but that proposed £16m deal failed to go through.

Hopefully, under the Friedkin Group’s ownership, these poor recruitment decisions will be ironed out.
