Eddie Howe can't help but laugh at Bruno Guimaraes Newcastle United injury update from Brazil…

Bruno Guimaraes injury: Eddie Howe couldn’t help but laugh at his captain’s injury update shared on social media earlier this week.

Guimaraes has been ruled out for two months with a hamstring injury picked up in the 2-1 win at Tottenham Hotspur earlier this month.

Newcastle have never won a Premier League match without Guimaraes since his debut but have won their last two games against Aston Villa in the FA Cup and Qarabag in the Champions League without the Brazilian. They head into Saturday’s Premier League match at Manchester City looking to pick up a first ever league win at the Etihad Stadium as well as a first league win without Guimaraes since his arrival.

NUFC approve Bruno Guimaraes trip to Brazil as part of injury recovery

As part of his injury recovery, Guimaraes flew to Brazil to work with the Brazil national team’s medical staff.

Speaking about the decision for Guimaraes to return to South America, Eddie Howe said: “I think he spoke with our medical team, and we've been in consultation with the Brazilian national team, so he's going to do his first part of his rehab with the Brazilian national team and then he'll come back to us for the last four weeks.

“So I think it's a good mix for Bruno. Because in the initial stages he won't be able to do too much, he gets a sort of mental refresh, while doing some good work, and then comes back to finish off his final part of his rehab.”

Guimaraes is an important player for Brazil’s national side and will be hoping to get back to full fitness and make a big impact at this summer’s World Cup in North America.

During his time in Brazil, Guimaraes posted a video of him watching Newcastle’s 6-1 win over Qarabag on television in hospital while lying in an oxygen chamber.

It was accompanied by the caption: “What a game boys 🖤🤍.”

And when asked about Guimaraes ahead of the trip to Manchester City, Howe made reference to his captain’s social media post.

“No massive updates on Bruno,” Howe said. “He's in Brazil, and judging by a couple of the pictures that I see, which is great to see, it's typical Bruno.

“Seeing him watching the game in the chamber did make me laugh, because it's just his passion and his love for the team shining through, and we wish him well from afar.”

Bruno Guimaraes on two-month injury blow

After news of his injury broke, Guimaraes took to Instagram to post: “As previously reported, for the first time in 10 years of my career, I will have to spend some time away from the pitch.

“I’m very saddened, but certain that God knows all things. A muscle injury will keep me out for a few weeks, but it will help strengthen me and ensure I’m even more prepared for what lies ahead.

“Thank you all for the support, messages and concern. See you soon.”
