Why first Alexis Mac Allister goal was ruled out before incredible late Liverpool drama

Liverpool managed to get over the line for a 1-0 win over Nottingham Forest in the Premier League, with one late goal from Alexis Mac Allister ruled out for a handball offense before another was allowed to stand.

The Argentine midfielder thought he had forced the ball over the line legally with the clock ticking down, but upon review, it became clear that the ball had struck his elbow. As that is below the shirt sleeve and because the ball went directly into the goal, it was ruled out. While it was not deliberate, it doesn't matter as it led to a goal being scored.

Moments later, Liverpool, again through Mac Allister, did win the game deep into stoppage time. That goal was checked for an offside offense by Virgil van Dijk, but ended up standing.
