Liverpool beat Nottingham Forest 1-0 at the City Ground on Saturday afternoon to boost their hopes of a top-five finish

Jamie Carragher believes that Liverpool teenager Rio Ngumoha needs to be starting more games after an impressive cameo in Sunday afternoon’s dramatic 1-0 Premier League win over Nottingham Forest.

Alexis Mac Allister scored twice in a incident-packed period of second-half stoppage time. His first goal was ruled out by VAR after it the ball hit off his elbow before going into the net.

He then bundled in late in the game with that goal subject to an offside check by VAR but the semi-automated system showed that Virgil van Dijk was being played onside in the build-up.

Nguomha came on in the 77th minute and created one big chance, completed two out of three dribbles as he looked to inject some much-needed creativity into a lacklustre Liverpool attack.

"Ngumoha did more in 15 minutes than Salah and Gakpo did before that. He changed the game and needs to be starting games.

"There's no-one better in getting last-minute winners in Premier League - and that is Liverpool."

Speaking about Ngumoha, manager Arne Slot said after the game: "The first goal that was disallowed was mainly because of him - and a great cross for Hugo and normally you would expect that to be a goal. Especially for Hugo as he's such a good finisher.

"A good action of him and one-v-one. It was what this game needed. Either a set piece or a moment like this. That's why I brought him on. First off the left, where there was not a lot of involvement. Then off the right, where there was much more involvement.

"He already plays a big part for a 17-year-old. Tell me wherever in the Premier League a player has had so many minutes. That tells you what kind of a talent he is, and how much we appreciate him."
