Eberechi Eze became the first Arsenal player to score five goals against Tottenham in a single league season since Ted Drake back in 1934/35, and afterwards reflected on a ‘special’ performance from the team.
Our No. 10 followed up his hat-trick in the home north London derby back in November with two more goals in our latest 4-1 win, netting the first to break the deadlock in the first half, before giving us a two-goal cushion on the hour mark.
"We played with dominance today,” he said afterwards, “with confidence and just the connection that we had on the pitch. I think it was a special performance from us and something that we can continue to build on and something to work towards our goals.
“We know what these types of games are. We know the energy that the fans are bringing and how we need to emotionally be ready for the games as well. I think we've done so well with that and we took advantage of that for sure.
“These games are all about momentum and being in the moment. I'm just thankful to God for the opportunities that we took today. We worked so hard, we gave everything and when we perform like this it motivates us.”
Ebere also praised the contribution of his fellow goalscorer Viktor Gyokeres, who put in a tireless performance up front, scoring twice to take his season’s tally to 15 in all competitions.
“He's got so much energy. We spoke about it before, it's infectious when you have a player like that and he's working so hard. It makes you want to continue to work as hard as you can to see what he's given. He's an inspiration for all of us working towards what we want to achieve.”
But the last word goes to Ebere, who continues to make more history in this fixture, and is now already our third highest goalscorer in the history of the north London derby in the Premier League, despite only playing twice.
“It's a special moment,” he grinned. “Again, grateful to God. Thankful to Him for the opportunities that I'm getting and being in this position that is special. I enjoy it every single day and I'm grateful for it. But I want to continue to push and keep giving more, keep helping the team to achieve.”
