‘Worst Hammers loanee ever’ at it again with another red card | West Ham News

David Moyes’ decision to agree the loan of Kalvin Phillips must go down as one of the Scot’s less sensible decisions; In hindsight, Phillips became probably the worst loan signing West Ham have ever had the misfortune of undertaking.

Phillips, not having played for Manchester City for several months, looked rusty and lacklustre on his debut in February 2024, gifting the ball to Bournemouth’s Dominic Solanke after three minutes for the attacker to score: Two games after, the midfielder was sent off after seeing red following two bookable offences and his loan was already a disaster.

Phillips may have thought his career couldn’t have hit a lower point but having dropped down to the Championship to get his career restarted this winter, Phillips was again shown a straight red today in the Sheffield derby.

Apparently according to the mirror.co.uk, “Kalvin Phillips was in tears as he apologised to the Sheffield United fans for his red card against Sheffield Wednesday in the Steel City derby on Sunday afternoon.”

The Manchester City loanee can have no arguments for what was indeed a pretty dreadful late tackle.
