Sunderland AFC have vowed to take the "strongest possible action" against those responsible for "vile" racist abuse directed toward Romaine Mundle on Sunday.
A statement on the club's website read: "Sunderland AFC is appalled by the vile online racist abuse directed at Romaine Mundle following today’s Premier League fixture against Fulham.
The abhorrent behaviour displayed by multiple individuals is unacceptable and will not be tolerated by the Club under any circumstances. There is no place for racism in our society, and we stand with Romaine, who has our full support.
The Club is actively working with the relevant authorities and online platforms to identify those responsible, and we will take the strongest possible action available to us. These individuals do not represent Sunderland AFC, our values, or our community - and they are not welcome on Wearside."
It comes as Sunderland suffered a 3-1 loss at the hands of Fulham on Sunday afternoon, as the Black Cats' usually formidable home form slipped once more.
Sunderland were unbeaten at the Stadium of Light in 2025/26 until Liverpool's visit earlier this month, Virgil van Dijk making the difference in a 1-0 win for the Reds on the road.
Following a tight first-half, Raul Jiminez gave Fulham the lead in the second-half on Sunday with a looping header, before doubling the Cottagers' advantage 10 minutes later from the penalty spot, when Brian Brobbey was found to have brought down Calvin Bassey in the area by holding his shirt.

While Enzo Le Fee converted a spot kick of his own with around 15 minutes to play, as a result of Dan Ballard being brought down by Ryan Sessegnon, the goal proved to be a consolation prize in the grand scheme of the match.
That's because Alex Iwobi sealed the deal for Fulham with five minutes of normal time remaining, to ensure that his side made the long trip back to the capital with all three points.

As a result of the loss, Sunderland sit 12th in the Premier League standings, winless in their last three top flight matches against Arsenal, Liverpool and now, Fulham.
Up next for Regis Le Bris' side is a trip to the Vitality Stadium to take on AFC Bournemouth come Saturday, February 28 at 12.30pm.
