West Ham’s Fabianski opens up on gruesome injury ordeal

Having re-signed as a free agent after Graham Potter’s daft decision to let him leave, [Lucas Fabianski](https://www.claretandhugh.info/lukasz-fabianski-nominated-for-save-of-the-month-award/) has endured something of a torrid time as an injury has kept him out of any form of action for several months. The Hammers’ veteran sustained the back injury in training and has opened up on the challenges he’s faced.

Speaking to Polish outlet [daveockop](https://www.daveockop.com/latest-news/west-ham-united-star-now-training-at-80-90-ahead-of-liverpool-clash/), Fabianski confirmed he’s finally back training at 80% but revealed the details of his injury: Anyone who’s ever injured a disc – ouch – will sympathise with ‘Fab’ who has struggled to put his body back together:

_“I made a turn, a dynamic change of direction, and one of my discs popped, which started pressing on a nerve in my leg, quite severely._

_This was the first time I’d had an injury like this. It happened in training. Not even after an intervention, a jump, a fall, or a run._ _After undergoing a series of tests, including an MRI, I saw that my spine was indeed showing the wear and tear of all those seasons._ _But I don’t regret it.”_

Still keeping the years at bay, Fabianski at nearly 41 hasn’t let up on his admirable ambition to return to fitness:

_“Of course, my role has changed in recent years. Nothing lasts forever, but I maintain the same approach to my profession.I want to maintain a high standard and set an example for others.”_

It does sound as if ‘Super Fab’ needs to get those coaching qualifications completed and listen to his body – perhaps it is almost time to hang up the gloves and pass on all of that knowledge and experience. West Ham’s crop of young ‘keepers including Fin Herrick and the on-loan Mason Terry and Krisztián Hegyi could certainly benefit from his incredible attitude and decades of experience.
