Manchester United have been handed a boost even before they kick off against Everton on Monday night. Top four rivals Chelsea conceded a late equaliser against Burnley on Saturday, meaning United can move three points clear of the London side if they win at Hill Dickinson Stadium.

It might not be that straightforward, though. Everton won at Old Trafford in the reverse fixture despite playing more than half the game with 10 men after Idrissa Gana Gueye's red card.

Things were very different for the Red Devils then, though, not least in the dugout. Michael Carrick has since taken over from Ruben Amorim, and the interim manager is unbeaten so far as he chases Champions League qualification.

If he can secure a top-four finish, it could have a significant bearing on United's summer transfer plans. That's where our focus lies as we bring you the latest from the red half of Manchester.

McTominay's clause revealed

Former Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay has been thriving at Napoli since joining the Italian club in 2024. If Antonio Conte's side cash in on their star man, though, his old employers would be in for a bonus.

McTominay helped Napoli win the Scudetto last season, sealing a return to the Champions League. There has been talk of a new contract as a reward for his fine form, with the Scot's agent Colin Murdock reported to have met with club chiefs.

An improved deal would put paid to any suggestions of a return to the Premier League, at least in the immediate term. However, the MEN reports that United would be entitled to 10 per cent of any fee if Napoli do decide to sell one of their most prized assets.

McTominay cost Napoli a little over £25million when he moved to Estadio Diego Armando Maradona. Were he to leave this summer - not that this looks likely - he would likely to command a substantially higher fee.

Onana heading back

Trabzonspor have no plans to turn Andre Onana's loan into a permanent switch, according to reports in Turkey. The Cameroon keeper made a fast start after joining on loan from Manchester United, but has found things tougher of late.

Fatih Tekke, the Turkish club's manager, is reported to have given Onana his private backing after a 3-2 defeat by Fenerbahce. However, the club are not believed to be prioritising a permanent summer deal for the keeper.

The defeat was Trabzonspor's first since the turn of the year and dented their faint title hopes. Onana was backed for the next game, though, starting away at Gaziantep.

Onana's United contract doesn't expire until 2028, but it remains to be seen whether he will be reintegrated at his parent club when a new permanent manager is appointed. There have been murmurings of a return to former club Inter Milan, with whom he reached the Champions League final in 2023 before moving to Old Trafford.
