Premier League official document removes duo from Newcastle United 2025/26 squad

Newcastle United’s Premier League squad list following the closure of all major 2025/26 transfer windows has been confirmed.

Newcastle United’s squad list for the remainder of the Premier League season was published after the winter transfer window closed.

Newcastle didn’t make any signings during the winter transfer window but an official document shared by the Premier Leauge showing each club’s squad list has confirmed several changes overall.

At first-team level, Newcastle confirmed the departure of Jamaal Lascelles to Leicester City, while Harrison Ashby joined Bradford City on loan for the remainder of the season.

Both players were named in Newcastle’s 25-man squad at the start of the season but have now been omitted following their exits. It leaves Newcastle with just 23 first-team players born before January 1, 2004.

Players born on or after that date do not need to be included in the 25-man squad list. Such players include 19-year-old Lewis Miley and 21-year-old Lewis Hall, both of whom have impressed in Eddie Howe’s side this season.

Newcastle’s Under-21s squad list can feature an unlimited number of players and can be updated throughout the season.

While Miley and Hall are listed as Under-21s players at Newcastle, they are very much first-team regulars.

But there have been some changes to Newcastle’s Under-21s squad list since the summer squads were submitted.

James Huntley, Cathal Heffernan and Ben Parkinson have all been removed following permanent exits from the club earlier this season. Parkinson left to join Falkirk while Heffernan joined Harrogate Town during the winter transfer window.

NUFC given Premier League green light to sign free agents

Newcastle removing Lascelles and Ashby from the Premier League squad list gives them space to register two new senior players before the end of the season, should they wish.

Although new signings aren’t forthcoming at the moment, the club could technically sign and register a free agent to be included in their Premier League squad list - something they would have been blocked from doing with a full 25-man roster.

NUFC player removed from Champions League squad

With UEFA squad rules different for Newcastle in the Champions League, the removal of Emil Krafth due to injury was confirmed earlier this week.

Krafth is set to be out for the remainder of the season with a knee injury and has been replaced in the Champions League squad by John Ruddy, who was on the bench for the 6-1 win at Qarabag on Wednesday night.

Krafth and goalkeeper Mark Gillespie are the only two over-21 players named in Newcastle’s Premier League squad not to be included in the Champions League squad.
