'Special' - Fresh Bruno Guimaraes footage shows Newcastle United star at new club as injury…

Newcastle United captain Bruno Guimaraes has issued an update on his recovery from a hamstring injury after visiting Brazil.

The midfielder suffered the injury in Newcastle’s 2-1 win at Tottenham Hotspur earlier this month and has since missed the last three matches for the club.

Saturday’s 2-1 defeat at Manchester City means Newcastle are yet to win a Premier League match without Guimaraes in their squad since the Brazilian made his debut in 2022. But they were able to secure successive wins without the Brazilian at Aston Villa in the FA Cup and Qarabag in the Champions League respectively.

Amid the busy fixture schedule for Newcastle, the club sanctioned a visit to Brazil for Guimaraes to work on his recovery.

During the return to his home country, the 28-year-old visited Brazilian club Atletico Mineiro to work with Dr Rodrigo Lasmar and Guilherme Fialho, both of whom are key members of the Brazil national team’s medical staff in addition to their club duties.

Atletico Mineiro shared a video of Guimaraes wearing the club’s training gear and presented a ‘Bruno G. No. 39’ shirt. Seeing Guimaraes in an other team’s shirt may not go down well with Newcastle fans, but at least it’s still black and white!

Guimaraes shared the video via his Instagram account along with the caption: “Thank you @atletico, it was a pleasure to be so well taken care of by all of you and to have experienced all the excellence you have for all the athletes!

“A special thank you to @guilhermefialho_mg and @dr_rodrigolasmar for taking care of me during this first week. We're in this together!”

Newcastle United injury list

Guimaraes is set to miss a crucial run of fixtures for Newcastle, who are also without some other key players due to injury.

Fabian Schar is set to be out until April following ankle surgery while Tino Livramento is a matter of weeks from returning from a hamstring problem.

Lewis Miley has been out for a month with a leg injury and is set to miss Tuesday’s Champions League match against Qarabag with head coach Eddie Howe claiming the 19-year-old will be out for ‘a couple of weeks’ at the most.

Yoane Wissa and Sven Botman have missed the last three matches but could return to action very soon. Howe has earmarked with Qarabag game for a return for Wissa but there is less certainty over Botman’s back issue.

Emil Krafth is out for the rest of the season with a knee injury.
