Michael Carrick has revitalised Manchester United
Manchester United have received a lift even before they take to the pitch against Everton on Monday evening. Top four contenders Chelsea surrendered a late equaliser against Burnley on Saturday, meaning United can establish a three-point advantage over the London outfit should they triumph at Hill Dickinson Stadium.
It might not prove quite so simple, however. Everton prevailed at Old Trafford in the reverse fixture despite playing over half the match with 10 men following Idrissa Gana Gueye's dismissal. Circumstances were vastly different for the Red Devils back then, though, particularly in the technical area. Michael Carrick has since replaced Ruben Amorim, and the interim boss remains undefeated so far as he pursues Champions League qualification.
Should he manage to clinch a top-four position, it could prove crucial for United's summer transfer strategy. That's where our attention turns as the Daily Star Sport deliver the latest news from the red half of Manchester.

Former Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay has been flourishing at Napoli since joining the Italian outfit in 2024. Should Antonio Conte's team cash in on their prized asset, though, his former club would be entitled to a windfall.
McTominay played a key role in Napoli's Scudetto triumph last season, securing a return to the Champions League. There's been speculation about a new contract as a reward for his stellar performances, with McTominay's agent Colin Murdock said to have held discussions with club officials.
A better deal would end any rumours of a Premier League return, at least for the time being. However, the Manchester Evening News reports that United would be entitled to 10 per cent of any fee if Napoli decide to sell one of their most valuable players.
McTominay cost Napoli just over £25million when he transferred to Estadio Diego Armando Maradona. If he were to depart this summer - though this doesn't seem likely - he would probably fetch a significantly higher price.

Trabzonspor reportedly have no intention of making Andre Onana's loan a permanent move, according to Turkish media. The Cameroon goalkeeper made a strong start after joining on loan from Manchester United, but has recently hit a rough patch.

Fatih Tekke, Trabzonspor's manager, is said to have privately supported Onana following a 3-2 loss to Fenerbahce. However, the club are not thought to be prioritising a permanent summer deal for the goalkeeper.
The defeat was Trabzonspor's first since the start of the year and put a dent in their slim title hopes. Onana was backed for the next match, however, starting away at Gaziantep.
Onana's contract with United isn't due to end until 2028, but it's still uncertain whether he'll be welcomed back at his home club once a new permanent manager takes the helm. There's been whispers of a potential return to his old club Inter Milan, where he made it to the Champions League final in 2023 prior to his transfer to Old Trafford.
