Slot explains Wirtz’s late Forest absence

**Arne Slot has revealed the reason for Florian Wirtz’s late withdrawal at Nottingham Forest.**

Liverpool ran out eventual 1-0 winners in Sunday’s Premier League encounter courtesy of Alexis Mac Allister’s strike deep into second half added time.

Wirtz was was initially named in the Reds’ starting line-up for the showdown at the City Ground before being replaced by Curtis Jones after an issue in the warm-up.

Slot confirmed post-match that the Germany international encountered a back problem but is hopeful he will be available for next weekend’s visit of West Ham.

He said: “We don’t think it is very serious, but he felt his back too much during the warm-up to start.

“He wasn’t able to be 100 per cent or even close to 100 per cent.

“I think after being in this league for six, seven or eight months, he now understands no matter how good you are on the ball, you need to be 100 per cent at this level.

“So, we decided not to play him. We hope and expect he will be able to be with us again next week \[for West Ham\] but you never know how things work out.”
