Liverpool just about got the job done with a dramatic victory at Nottingham Forest on Sunday afternoon. Having had a goal disallowed in the 90th minute, Alexis Mac Allister then struck the winner seven minutes into the additional period to secure only the Reds' second league win at Forest in 42 years.

The result means Arne Slot's side have moved level on points with Chelsea in the race for a top-four place and have now lost only twice in their last 20 games in all competitions.

But there was plenty that went unnoticed or under the radar during the 90 minutes at the City Ground...

Big Mac joy

Liverpool have become accustomed to turbulent injury time periods this season. But even for them, what happened against Forest was particularly remarkable.

And having had his first effort chalked off and feared the second was going the same way, Mac Allister was determined to enjoy the moment when his winner was eventually allowed.

With the remainder of the players lined up for the restart, the Argentine went off towards the away end and repeatedly punched the air in delight before the Liverpool bench, his team-mates and the officials all implored him to get back inside his own half so the game could continue. You couldn't blame him, to be fair.

Konate cartwheel

It wasn't just Mac Allister for whom the celebrations were a tad unusual. Having put in the cross for the winner, Dominik Szoboszlai turned to the dugout before being embraced by Joe Gomez while half the bench raced towards the pitch in an explosion of delight and relief.

And then there was man-of-the-match Ibrahima Konate. After the first ultimately disallowed goal, Konate was so ecstatic he thought nothing of performed a cartwheel in backplay.

But when it came to the actual winner, this time the Frenchman was with Mac Allister in front of the away end before standing on an advertising hoarding and screaming towards the travelling Kop. Steady on, Ibou.

Arne angry

There was plenty for Slot to be unhappy with during the first half given a dismal performance the Reds boss considered the worst of his tenure.

But any ire after the interval was almost exclusively aimed at the officials and one incident in particular when Mohamed Salah was hauled to the floor by former team-mate Neco Williams and the ball rolled out of play.

It was either a throw-in or a free-kick to Liverpool. Instead, Forest were awarded possession. To say Slot, head in his hands while aghast in his technical area, was perplexed would be an understatement.

Ordinary Joe

Substitute Gomez might have spent most of his cameo hurling long throws into the box but the defender still played some part in the dramatic winner, finding Szoboszlai before the Hungary captain's cross created the chaos for Mac Allister to profit.

It's been a good return from injury for Gomez, who has played a part off the bench for a side who have secured three successive clean sheets but the likeable Londoner doesn't appear ready to publicly discuss his comeback just yet.

Asked by the ECHO after the game if he had a couple of minutes to spare, Gomez joked no-one would want to hear from him and instead implored the reporters assembled to "ask one of the big dogs", referring to some of the more high-profile members of the squad.

Despite being informed he was very much "one of the big dogs" himself as the club's longest-serving player, Gomez still politely declined and boarded the team bus without providing his verdict on what could yet be a big win for Slot's men. Maybe next week, Joe?
