Football support for brave academy player Harry, 16

Harry, 16, was diagnosed with T-cell lymphoblastic lymphoma in early January and has been raising money for Leeds-based Candlelighters Trust children’s cancer charity.

T-cell lymphoblastic lymphoma is a rare type of fast-growing non-Hodgkin lymphoma, which leads to chest pain, coughing or difficulty breathing.

His diagnosis came after he found himself to be struggling during a training session, and following an x-ray and a CT scan, he was transferred to LGI children's oncology ward in Leeds within 24 hours.

It was there that Harry and his parents, Greg and Lucie, learned of his diagnosis.

Harry and his family have received huge amounts of support from Candlelighters, making his two-week stay become more manageable.

So far, Harry has raised an incredible £16,000 for the charity on his JustGiving page, which can be found HERE.

Harry wrote on his JustGiving page: “Today, I am reaching out to you with an ask, please consider supporting The Candlelighters Trust as they continue to provide essential services for families like mine facing similar challenges.

“Our target is £1,000 GBP to help ensure that no family has to face this journey alone.

“Your generosity can make an incredible impact on those in need.”

York City have backed Harry's cause too, saying on the club website: "The football club will be supporting Harry through his return to football.

“We are all behind you, Harry!”

Support has been flooding in for Harry, which continued on Saturday when York City played against FC Halifax Town at the LNER Community Stadium.

Referee Alan Dale stopped the football match in the 16th minute for a minute's applause for Harry, with both sets of players, staff and supporters joining in.

Jorvik Radio recorded the brilliant scene and posted it on social media, as seen below.

There is also a push from Scunthorpe United supporters to do the same again on Tuesday night, when York City visit their promotion rivals (7.45pm), with both sets of supporters to applaud Harry in the 16th minute.
