Ange Postecoglou makes Nuno claim when highlighting Forest struggles

For Ange Postecoglou, his time managing Nottingham Forest won’t live too long in the memory.

The Australian head coach lasted just 39 days in the hot seat at the City Ground, exiting without experiencing a single victory from the nine games he oversaw.

The amount of money Nottingham Forest have paid out to managers

This is just ridiculous, should we have persisted with Dyche?

Embarrassing defeats to Swansea and FC Midtjylland set the alarm bells ringing in the early stages of his tenure on Trentside, and a drab 3-0 defeat to Chelsea saw the end of his time.

Now, as he waits for his next opportunity, Postecoglou has been discussing what he found so tricky when it came to impressing the Forest fans.

Ange Postecoglou makes Nuno Espirito Santo claim

Impressing the fan base was always going to be hard for Postecoglou, with fans gutted that Espirito Santo had departed after leading the Reds to seventh place last season.

Postecoglou has spoken candidly about his failed Forest spell, refusing to make excuses and blaming himself for the debacle, admitting that replacing Espirito Santo was always going to be a tough task.

He said on The Overlap: That’s what I thought going in. It’s weird, most of the time you go into a club and that club wants change, but the reality is I think they were reluctant to get rid of Nuno, it was only because of the stuff behind the scenes, there is no way they wanted to sack Nuno after last year.

“So, you’re not walking into an environment where you’re looking for change, so from that point of view I was thinking with that group of players I can turn it around pretty quickly.

“Strategically, we had four away games all of my first four, we never got any traction, and it’s no wonder the supporters never took to me. I think they still saw me as being too close to Tottenham.”

Marinakis has to take the blame for Postecoglou appointment

When Marinakis appointed Postecoglou, it was only ever going to end one way, with no Forest fan wanting him to replace Espirito Santo.

His tenure was doomed from the off and the fact that he couldn’t buy a win didn’t help matters at all.

The games that Postecoglou oversaw in the Premier League could prove decisive in the fight against relegation for Forest and the hope will be that some daylight can be put between the bottom three in the coming weeks.

It’s great that Postecoglou hasn’t made any excuses regarding his Forest tenure and it will be interesting to see if any Premier League club touches him again in the future.
