West Ham may well have the weapon they need to pull off a great escape this season.

Former West Ham boss has likened a current Hammers star to Carlos Tevez as the East London club to secure a great escape. The Iron are now within two points of safety after a fine run of form over recent weeks that has pulled them back into contention as far as safety is concerned.

The Iron now have a real chance of pulling off a great escape, and it’s something the club has done before, notably in 2006 when Tevez fired them to safety despite looking as though they would drop off with little fight at one point during that campaign.

When fighting relegation, top quality players who have the ability to win any game with a piece of magic are required, and according to former boss Pardew, the Iron do have one of those players.

“I was at the West Ham vs Forest game,” Pardew told talkSPORT. “West Ham had gone ahead early, but Forest turned it around. At that point, it felt as though they couldn’t win!

“They’d only won three games all season, and you thought they’d never win three more. Yet, they’ve now got themselves to six wins. Historically, to get out of the bottom of the division, you need one of your offensive players to really come to life. Tevez springs to mind. At the moment, they’ve got Summerville.

“He has come into a rich vein of form and that is massively important. Nottingham Forest haven’t got that [talismanic presence] at the moment, so West Ham have that slight advantage.”

Summerville now has six goals and four assists for the season, and he has scored four goals in his last six Premier League appearances. That’s the kind of form West Ham need him to continue as they look to beat the drop, but they will also need help elsewhere.

The Iron are going to need the likes of Taty Castellanos and Jarrod Bowen to consistently come up with the goods and especially during the tricky run of fixtures they have now entered. West Ham now face Liverpool, Fulham, Manchester City and Aston Villa in their next four games and they must avoid falling behind, or at least too far behind, in the race for safety.
