Mateus Fernandes Comments On What West Ham Needs

**Mateus Fernandes has been a crucial player towards West Ham’s season and has transformed into a player of gold dust for the Hammers. His presence in the midfield has been astonishing and after Bournemouth, he commented on what West Ham needs as a team in the remaining games.**

The match of Saturday evening against Bournemouth brought a variety of different opinions to the table, many fans seemed disappointed with a point given our circumstances in the table, whereas others saw the draw as a point gained and one that could prove to be vital come the end of the season. Come the end of the match, Mateus had formulated his own opinion, claiming that the Hammers did enough on one end, but not the other.

“We’re very good defensively. Another clean sheet, but we need to score. If we score, we are comfortable defending. We are defending much better. We are doing well, but we need to score our chances. It’s good we’re creating, but we need to work on this part.”

Mateus Fernandes makes a great point here. Against Bournemouth, the Hammers were totally and utterly neutralised and struggled immensely to be clinical, but it does need to be remembered that Iraola evidently set out for a draw, not a performance that was gun-ho for victory. Nevertheless, it’s important to remember that not too long ago West Ham were leaking goals for fun and we became a laughing stock, we conceded three to Wolves! But Chelsea was, in truth, the biggest turning point.

Nuno and Paco after the Chelsea match said enough was enough. They dropped Kilman, brought in Hermansen and Disasi and suddenly we look at a transformed side defensively, one that is currently fifth in the league based on recent form. We are now a comfortable side defensively, we just need to work on being more clinical in front of goal, and suddenly our worries will begin to dim down. It’s just a question of how long it’ll take Nuno and his side to find the correct balance.
