Leeds United’s next Premier League fixture sees us welcome Manchester City to Elland Road on Saturday night.
The relegation scrap in the Premier League is getting seriously intense, with a lot of the focus going towards the possibility of Spurs facing the drop.
For Leeds, it’s comforting to be less in the spotlight than we were a couple of months ago. That doesn’t mean we’re out of the woods, though, as we take on Manchester City at home next.
Pep Guardiola makes surprising Manchester City admission ahead of Leeds United clash
Leeds’ hopes of retaining our unbeaten Elland Road record under the floodlights is put to the test this Saturday. We welcome Pep Guardiola’s Man City to LS11 for a 5:30pm kick-off. The Citizens look to keep chipping away at Arsenal’s five-point gap.
Everyone is well aware of Guardiola’s Man City having the capability of running away with the league title through absurd winning streaks. The City boss, though, isn’t expecting a clean run of wins from hereon.
“Many things are going to happen,” Guardiola said, per the MEN. “I have a feeling that we are not going to win all our games. Arsenal, I don’t know. But I have this feeling, because FA Cup, Champions League games, then comes trouble. Many, many games. Injuries will come.
“The best way is to relax now and focus on Leeds, then we’ll see. It will depend on our level, it needs to be better, better, better.”
Having seen off Newcastle United on Saturday, all of Guardiola’s focus is on training at the best standard possible to prepare for Leeds.
“We have a lot of new players, that’s why they have to live it,” Guardiola continued. “I’ve said, forget about it. We have to improve, it’s not enough. To compete to win the Premier League you have to be there. We proved ourselves to win the three points but we have to do better to have the chance to do it.
“I say to the guys, ‘Take a lot of caipirinhas and daiquiris in these three days, enjoy life’. And after that, make a proper three training sessions and go to Leeds. That is a proper way. I know how difficult it will be. If it doesn’t go well, we keep going, never give up. Ten or 11 games is a lot in the Premier League.”
Is Leeds United under the lights at Elland Road becoming the new ‘cold rainy night in Stoke’?
Theo Walcott said last week that he believes Real Madrid would struggle in the Premier League. His reason being that they’d stumble in games like Elland Road under the lights.
It goes to show how incredible the narrative is around Leeds when we’re playing at home in these sorts of games.
Guardiola has been here and done it before in the title race. So, hostile stadiums are like water off a duck’s back. He’s too good a manager to let these sorts of games get the better of him consistently.
That being said, you can see from his comments that he knows anything other than a top performance will not be enough against Leeds.
