Man Utd have been handed a fresh injury setback ahead of their clash with Everton in the Premier League fixture on Monday night.

United are back in action after almost a fortnight without a match, and Michael Carrick has been forced to make a change to his starting line up with the Argentine sidelined with a suspected calf issue.

The 28-year-old has been a key part of the United starting line up since his return to fitness and has started their previous 10 matches across all competitions. Martinez's partnership with Harry Maguire has been a key part of their recent transformation under the former midfielder and will be a huge blow to their hopes of a positive result on the first visit to the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

United will hope to have Martinez available for selection again when they host Crystal Palace at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon, before they make the trip to face Newcastle next midweek.

United have won five of their last nine league matches that Martinez have started and won just seven of their 18 without him this campaign. Michael Carrick is expected to issue a fresh update on his potential return date after the match with Everton on Monday night.
