Well, here we are. The Brighton Base’s 400th article, which feels like an apt time to lift the lid on the outlet, the team behind it, and what the future holds for the site.
My name is [Charlie Parker-Turner, the founder of The Brighton Base](https://x.com/CParkerTurner?lang=en), and the writer behind the anonymous byline you will have seen across plenty of our stories. There it is, the mask is off. Mystery solved.
After spending four years working for national newspapers, covering all sports at all hours, it became clear to me that media is heading in a new direction.
AI has been incorporated at a rate of knots, but at the expense of community and a human touch. Clicks are prioritised over simple grammatical accuracy. Thorough coverage is simply becoming a thing of the past.
This is how the idea behind The Brighton Base came about – a go-to place for Brighton and Hove Albion news.
Since launching in June 2025, we’ve covered every Albion fixture, gathered transfer reports from around the world, closely followed the Seagulls’ loanees, and revisited some classic yet bizarre tales. And that’s without our pinpoint exclusives.
We’ve covered all bases.
Since then, we have grown beyond expectations, with over 100,000 different users visiting the site in January alone. Viewer retention hit an all-time high during that period too, with each reader reading almost three articles per visit.
The volume of coverage that you see today is also thanks to our team. Louis Selling, Annabel Bassett, Felix May, and Cody Aceveda have all contributed immensely since launch and have been central to our progress.
So, what’s next? This season has been about laying the foundations, establishing an audience, and building a brand on social media. The next stage is about expanding on what we offer, developing fresh ideas, and, ultimately, providing an even greater level of coverage. More on that in due course.
But in order to truly raise the levels, it feels like the right time for our readers to know who is behind the outlet that they support.
Thank you for being a part of the journey so far. Here’s to the next 400.
