Baffling: Motd completely ignore main Leeds United talking point – It’s not the first time

Leeds United were well worth a draw away at Aston Villa, thanks to Daniel Farke’s tactical display, but Anton Stach’s brilliance stole the show.

The Whites’ position regarding survival remains virtually the same this week with six points separating us and the bottom three.

However, that position is a better one now than it was prior to the weekend. We’ve ticked off another tough away game with a draw on the board, while those below us failed to win.

Match of the Day pundits completely gloss over Anton Stach’s Leeds United screamer

You would have imagined that the best goal scored this weekend would have dominated the post-match analysis on Match of the Day.

Tammy Abraham scrambled in an equaliser for the Villans, but Anton Stach’s brilliance from a dead ball was what almost everyone was talking about after full-time.

Expect, Match of the Day trio Mark Chapman, Wayne Rooney and Micah Richards completely glossed over what could be a goal of the season nomination.

It’s not the first time that Leeds have been given sub-par analysis on our goalscoring exploits on that programme. Discussion of our draw with Manchester United was shockingly biased to the away side.

Prior to that, when Stach wrapped in an incredible free-kick at Wolves, Danny Murphy somehow actually blamed the ‘keeper for letting it in.

What did Match of the Day’s Wayne Rooney have to say about Leeds United?

There was some hefty praise for Leeds during Rooney’s analysis of the match. He took a more general approach to Farke’s tactical structure and how our out-of-possession shape was crucial to frustrating Morgan Rogers and co.

“They were really organised, disciplined, but also really brave as well. They were going man-to-man at times, but they were in a block but cut the space out in the middle of the pitch and forced Aston Villa wide,” Rooney said.

“They’re really compact, Ampadu and Stach were brilliant all game. They are compact and they’ve been very good over the last few months. They’re very difficult to play against, they know what they are doing, they’re organised and in Calvert-Lewin up front, they’ve got someone who is scoring goals.”

In particular, Pascal Struijk’s performance without the ball was highlighted. The Dutchman was tasked with going man-to-man with Rogers, stifling the attacking midfielder time and again.

“Here, Morgan Rogers, Aston Villa’s best player is trying to get in the pockets,” Rooney continued. “Nowhere for him to go, again Leeds force them to play wide, no space in the middle of the pitch.

“This is the one time he gets behind the Leeds midfield. Struijk scanning, the ball comes out, Rogers is trying to get on the ball and Struijk is right on him, on his touch, gives him nowhere to go.

“Leeds were very unlucky not to come away with three points.”

Daniel Farke deserves huge credit for Leeds United’s improved away performances

There are similarities in that 1-1 draw against Villa, and the 1-1 draw at Everton. However, there is a marked improvement from Farke between these games.

We limited Villa to virtually nothing in the way of big chances until a scrambled corner. As Rooney says, we are unfortunate to come away with only a point. That said, the signs are there that Farke is managing these games so much better.

His subs were good, they came while we were still leading, and all made a positive impact that probably should have seen us through.

Anyway, any chance of Match of the Day praising the great goals we’ve been scoring? That’d be nice.
