Manchester United fans question Michael Carrick's decision
Manchester United fans are questioning Michael Carrick's decision to bench Benjamin Sesko. Many claim that the 22-year-old star should have started their Premier League game at Everton on Monday, February 22.
Carrick has kept faith in Senne Lammens in goal, but the backline has a change after Lisandro Martinez was ruled out with a calf injury. Diogo Dalot and Luke Shaw are the full-backs, with Leny Yoro partnering Harry Maguire in the middle of the defence.
Casemiro and Kobbie Mainoo are in the pivot once again, with Bruno Fernandes in the attacking role. Amad Diallo and Matheus Cunha are in the attack, with Bryan Mbeuno leading the attack.
The fans have just one issue with the starting XI, with many wanting to see Sesko leading the line-up and posted:
Former Premier League striker Emile Heskey spoke about Sesko earlier this week, urging Carrick to bench the striker. He praised the striker, but claimed that he was not someone who should start, and said:
"The centre-forward position is a difficult one for Man United at the moment. I rate Benjamin Sesko and would like to see him start because he's a more traditional striker, but then the difficulty is how best to fit in Matheus Cunha, Bruno Fernandes and Bryan Mbeumo into the first team as well.
"If I were Michael Carrick, I'd start Cunha up front over the other options. I feel he gives the attack a bit more mobility and he's started so strongly at the club. He'd be my pick out of the selection of forwards United have at their disposal."
Manchester United need at least a point against Everton to move back into fourth place after Chelsea jumped ahead on Saturday following their draw against Burnley.
Benjamin Sesko backed to succeed at Manchester United by Emile Heskey
Emile Heskey has backed Benjamin Sesko to do well at Manchester United. However, he believes that the striker needs time to settle and said:
"Can Sesko succeed at Man United? I think he's found it difficult as well, to be honest with you, but I quite like him. He's scored a couple of goals lately and I quite like him but this is the thing I think all of the players have. Technically he's very good but when you're playing in that environment, the pressure of Manchester United is not easy. There's a certain expectation."
Manchester United paid £74 million to sign Sesko in the summer, and he has scored six goals in 21 Premier League matches.
