Man United Player Ratings vs Everton: Sesko shines again but one 10/10 teammate was even better

Manchester United registered a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Everton in the Premier League on Monday evening.

United head coach Michael Carrick was forced to make one change to his starting XI.

Lisandro Martinez suffered a calf injury and was replaced by Leny Yoro.

It was a scrappy game with Everton sitting deep and rarely showing any willingness to attack.

The stalemate was shattered in the 71st minute when substitute Benjamin Sesko finished off a lightning counter-attack, injecting life into an otherwise drab affair.

Everton monopolised possession late on but barely troubled Lammens, resorting instead to grappling theatrics at corners, only for United’s rearguard to repel everything with authority.

Player Ratings

Senne Lammens – 10/10

What a jaw-dropping performance from the Belgium international.

Produced a superb save to keep out a fierce set-piece effort from James Garner before the break. He also parried away a thunderous strike from Michael Keane.

With Everton winning 11 corners and crowding him at every delivery, Lammens showed outstanding courage and authority, repeatedly punching clear under intense pressure. He was the best player on the pitch.

Diogo Dalot – 8/10

Nearly opened the scoring with a crisp volley and put in a disciplined defensive shift, repeatedly shutting down crosses from his side.

Leny Yoro – 9/10

The 20-year-old appeared nervy in the early stages but grew into the contest to deliver a marvellous performance. Like Lammens, Yoro deserves credit for standing firm against Everton’s aerial bombardment from corners.

Harry Maguire – 8/10

Switched to the left side of the centre-back pairing after Martinez’s injury and marshalled the defence with authority, offering steady support to Yoro whenever required.

Luke Shaw – 7/10

He lacks dynamism to consistently make overlapping runs. Contributed defensively against tricky winger Iliman Ndiaye.

Casemiro – 7/10

The five-time Champions League winner attempted several ambitious vertical passes, though his teammates were unable to capitalise on them. Some may label his distribution as wasteful, but it reflected his willingness to take risks.

Kobbie Mainoo – 8/10

Showed sharp instincts to dispossess Dewsbury-Hall and launch a promising move for Mbeumo. Delivered a composed yet combative performance in the engine room.

Bruno Fernandes – 7/10

Not as creative as his other performances but still inspired players around him to give more than their 100%.

Matheus Cunha – 8/10

He missed a golden opportunity to slip Benjamin Sesko through one-on-one after losing his footing at the crucial moment.

However, the Brazilian made amends in spectacular fashion, threading a sensational Hollywood pass to release Mbeumo in the build-up to Sesko’s goal.

His relentless work rate, and the chaos he brings to defenders, is precisely why Carrick must trust him to see out cagey contests.

Amad Diallo – 5/10

Saw an early effort cleared off the line, but struggled to impose himself on the game and did not do enough to justify a starting place next time out.

Bryan Mbeumo – 7/10

Produced a harmless strike early on but showed excellent awareness and composure to lay a goal on a plate for Sesko.

Substitutes

Benjamin Sesko – 9/10

Another cameo, another goal. It was a simple finish for the Slovenian but he has to run the entire length of the pitch, beating Tarkowski in the footrace. With more composure, he could have bagged a brace.

Noussair Mazraoui – 6/10

Picked up a yellow card for a tactical foul.

Ayden Heaven – NA

Too late to rate.
