Benjamin Sesko was the match winner for Manchester United against Everton
Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has shared his reaction on social media after Benjamin Sesko scored the winner for his side against Everton. The Red Devils returned to winning ways after their draw against West Ham, claiming a narrow 1-0 triumph against the Toffees.
Ferdinand reacted like the majority of the Manchester United faithful after Sesko came off the bench to score his eighth goal for the club. The retired defender posted a four-word message on his X account, conveying his delight at the impact of the Slovenia international.
Benjamin Sesko was named on the bench by interim Manchester United boss Michael Carrick for a sixth successive game and tasked with making an impact as a substitute. The 22-year-old obliged his coach for a third time in four games as he continues to push for a starting berth for the Red Devils.
Sesko joined the club from RB Leipzig last summer in a deal that could reach £74 million in total fees. The Slovenian has scored eight times in 23 appearances and appears to have put his early struggles this season behind him. Six of his goals have come in his last seven appearances for the Red Devils, compared to just two goals in his first 17 games for the club.
Manchester United have now extended their unbeaten run in the league to ten games, earning them a place in the top four. The Red Devils are three points clear of Chelsea in fifth place as they aim for a place in next season's UEFA Champions League.
Manchester United march on with win over Everton
Manchester United made it five wins from six games under Michael Carrick after a 1-0 win over Everton at the Hill Dickinson Stadium. The Red Devils have picked up the most points in the Premier League since the turn of the year, an impressive upturn in their fortunes.
Both sides kept each other at bay without creating much in the opening period of the game before changes were made. Carrick threw on Benjamin Sesko just before the hour mark, and the 22-year-old combined with Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo to open the scoring following a counter attack after 71 minutes.
The home side pushed for an equaliser but were thwarted by Senne Lammens between the sticks as the Red Devils registered a first away clean sheet of the season. They sit just three points behind Aston Villa in third place on the league table.
