'Please don't': Carragher makes passionate plea to Everton fans over David Moyes after 1-0 Man…

Jamie Carragher believes Everton fans shouldn’t be pointing the finger at David Moyes, after another defeat at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Everton fell to a 1-0 defeat against Manchester United, with Benjamin Sesko scoring the game’s only goal.

David Moyes’ side put in a good effort and applied pressure, especially in the second-half.

But United’s backline held firm and goalkeeper Senne Lammens enjoyed a solid outing between the sticks.

It was still a disappointing defeat, but Carragher explained after the game why Evertonians shouldn’t be critical of Moyes.

Speaking after the game on Sky Sports, Carragher explained why Everton fans ought to be backing Moyes despite another home defeat.

He couldn’t provide an answer as to why Everton are currently struggling at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, but did say of Moyes: “There’s a little bit of frustration from Evertonians because they’re not winning at home, and you always want to do well, I get that, so there’s that frustration with the new stadium.

“That was the big excitement over the last few years. Try to stay in the Premier League and we’ll get to the new stadium.

“Also at times, and I notice this through friends and family or through social media, when Everton lose a game a lot of focus goes on the manager, as it does at most clubs, and Moyes gets a bit of criticism.

“But how David Moyes has got that squad of players in ninth position, I will never know. They’ve been on Monday Night Football six times and they very rarely impress me. They do OK, they get the job done.

“What Moyes has done since he’s come in about 12 months ago, maybe more, he’s done phenomenal. This is a team and a club that’s been fighting relegation the last few years.

“I know it’s disappointing because they’ve been so close to making the next step to European places, and that frustrates the supporters, but please don’t be pointing the finger at David Moyes. That squad is not the ninth-best squad of players in the Premier League.”

Moyes has done a great job but can still be criticised

Two things can be true at once.

There can be acknowledgement of the great work Moyes has done to get Everton away from fighting relegation and overseeing this period of transition to the new stadium.

But fan frustrations are understandable, with Moyes such a lover of putting square pegs in round holes.

Some of his player selections have been somewhat questionable.

But true judgements ought to be reserved until the end of the season, with Everton still not completely out of contention for European football.
