Gary Neville criticised 'sloppy' Man United passing but Kobbie Mainoo was an anomaly with flawless passing

Kobbie Mainoo helped Manchester United to an ugly victory over Everton in the Premier League.

Manchester United’s football at the Hill Dickinson Stadium was far from pretty at times, but a 1-0 win over Everton is all that matters to Michael Carrick and his players.

Benjamin Sesko scored the winner off the bench to continue his red-hot scoring streak, but there were some impressive performances across the pitch, including from goalkeeper Senne Lammens.

Kobbie Mainoo avoided ‘sloppy’ Gary Neville criticism vs Everton

United’s first-half performance against Everton was particularly poor, with players easily surrendering possession and playing without intensity.

Speaking on Sky Sports commentary, United legend Gary Neville said: “There has been some really sloppy passing so far.

“It’s nowhere near good enough.”

While Neville’s criticism was justified for several United players, Mainoo was an island of quality in midfield.

As per SofaScore, Mainoo completed 49 of his 51 passes, ending the match with a 96% accuracy. Incredibly, Mainoo had a 100% pass completion rate in Everton’s half.

In a match where many United players were prone to errors, Mainoo was nearly flawless in midfield.

Man United must prioritise Kobbie Mainoo contract

Since Carrick’s return, Mainoo has immediately become a key player in this United side again.

Under Ruben Amorim, United considered selling Mainoo, but he has wasted no time reminding everyone of his talent in the last five matches.

According to reports, United are ready to enter contract talks with Mainoo over a new deal that will tie his future down at Old Trafford.

Before Ineos get stuck into their midfield rebuild at United in the summer transfer window, it should be a top priority to organise a new contract for Mainoo as the centrepiece of that rebuild.
