‘I just thought he was brilliant’ Troy Deeney in awe of Newcastle United star

Troy Deeney has picked his best 12 performers from the weekend action.

The Premier League team of the week (and manager) that have most impressed him.

Included in his dozen choices is one from Newcastle United.

This NUFC player with once again a superb performance, even though he ended up on the losing team at the Etihad.

Lewis Hall showing star quality yet again.

Troy Deeney explains why he has chosen Lewis Hall for his Premier League team of the week and then the full eleven (twelve) are listed below:

“I had to find a place for him because he has been fantastic over the course of the Premier League and even though his goal against Manchester City was a deflected strike, I just thought he was brilliant.”

It is far from the first time that Troy Deeney has appreciated the brilliance of Lewis Hall…

Troy Deeney writing about Lewis Hall back in December following the 2-2 draw against Tottenham:

“Hands down the best player on the pitch against Spurs. I haven’t said this yet but if he continues in this level of form he will be the starting left-back for England at the World Cup. Exceptional level and it was interesting when he got brought to Newcastle from Chelsea that a lot of people questioned the fee. He’s had a few injury problems but he looks top class and like a bargain now for Eddie Howe.”

Troy Deeney on Lewis Hall in January, after the goalless draw at Wolves:

“He was the best player on the pitch by a country mile during Newcastle’s 0-0 draw at Wolves on Sunday and he’s starting to make the case that he should be starting for England. That’s how good he has been this season.”

Troy Deeney Premier League team of midweek:

Dean Henderson (Crystal Palace)

Virgil van Dijk (Liverpool)

Harry Maguire (Man U)

Lewis Hall (Newcastle United)

Nico O’Reilly (Man City)

Anton Stach (Leeds)

Eberechi Eze (Arsenal)

Diego Gomez (Brighton)

Zian Flemming (Burnley)

Viktor Gyokeres (Arsenal).

Raul Jimenez (Fulham)

Manager:

Mikel Arteta (Arsenal)

Lewis Hall is simply a brilliant player.

He has been exceptional since Eddie Howe felt he was ready to start, week in week out, when the 2024/25 season kicked off.

Still only 19 at the time, Lewis Hall incredibly good and so unlucky to pick up that season ending injury at Liverpool, just a couple of weeks before Newcastle United defeated…Liverpool, to lift the Carabao Cup.

A joy to watch, he has incredible talent on the ball, lifelong Newcastle United fan Lewis Hall is a player who I would love to see spend the rest of his career at St James’ Park.

He is absolutely nailed on to be on the plane to the World Cup finals this summer and is indeed ‘a country mile’ better than any rival at another club for the England left-back spot, including the likes of Spence at Spurs and Lewis-Skelly at Arsenal.

Indeed, his toughest competition is Tino Livramento, but his favourite position is right-back and he will also be on the plane for the World Cup, competing for that position with England.
