Man Utd news: Zinedine Zidane 'accepts' job offer as Michael Carrick warns Ineos

Manchester United face several pivotal decisions this summer. Whilst the club battles for a Champions League berth in the Premier League, they must also address off-field matters that will shape their fortunes next season. The encouraging beginning interim manager Michael Carrick has enjoyed at Old Trafford means United remain firmly in contention for the top four. With just 11 league fixtures remaining, the club can concentrate solely on securing qualification for Europe's elite competition.

Carrick will be hoping to utilise the remaining matches to persuade the United board to hand him the manager's position permanently. Numerous coaches have been touted for the vacancy, yet the club legend could claim the role for himself. Reports suggest that Zinedine Zidane is edging closer to a managerial comeback, whilst Carrick has identified one of the obstacles United must overcome during the summer months. Here, Express Sport runs through some of the latest stories emerging from Old Trafford...

Zinedine Zidane 'agrees' next job

Zinedine Zidane has been repeatedly linked to the Manchester United job since leaving as Real Madrid boss. The 53-year-old secured three Champions League trophies and two La Liga crowns during two separate stints managing Los Blancos, but has remained unemployed since his resignation in 2021.

Fabrizio Romano has reported that Zidane has reached a verbal agreement to become France manager after this summer's World Cup. Current head coach Didier Deschamps is scheduled to complete his contract following the tournament.

Zidane hasn't been linked with the United position since Carrick's appointment as caretaker manager. Nevertheless, the reported development strengthens Carrick's prospects of retaining his role at Old Trafford, with a prominent coach effectively removing himself from contention for the post.

Michael Carrick transfer warning

Michael Carrick says Manchester United will be losing a crucial player in Casemiro when the Brazilian leaves in the summer transfer window. United have confirmed Casemiro will depart the club when his contract expires, despite the seasoned defensive midfielder rediscovering his best form this season, making him challenging to replace.

"Yeah, well, listen, it's an important position, I think," the United boss said. "Not being biased, obviously, as being a midfielder, but I think it is an important position to try and tie everything together.

"You're connected to the whole team, and that's sometimes emotionally, a little bit mentally, and showing that composure and understanding of the game a little bit. And Case's has had a big influence within the group on that."
