Wrexham boss Phil Parkinson on women's final win and U18s' cup tie against Villa

Everyone is still talking about the Reds’ FA Cup fifth round home draw against Chelsea but Jenny Sugarman’s women’s team grabbed the headlines on Sunday in lifting the Adran Trophy in a penalty shoot-out win over Cardiff City.

Phil Parkinson was in the crowd in Bangor to cheer the girls on and the Reds boss has given his words of support for the club’s U18s side, who face Aston Villa in the FA Youth Cup fifth round at Hednesford’s Keys Park ground tonight.

On the women's side picking up their first piece of silverware, Parkinson said: "I am pleased for Jenny, her staff, all the players and everybody connected with the team.

"It went to penalties but I think overall they deserved to get the trophy and it's a real boost for not just them but everybody at the club.

"It's always difficult to get that first trophy but they've got it and I enjoyed watching the game, but also the scenes of emotion and what it meant to everybody at the end."

Wrexham U18s have reached the fifth round of the FA Youth Cup for the first time in the club's history after beating Southend and now face Premier League side Villa, the current holders of the competition.

"It's a brilliant tie," said Parkinson. "They had to really earn that victory down at Southend and a long trip.

"When the draw came out for them, it's a great opportunity against a category one Academy who won the trophy last year.

"It's a good test for our lads. Of course, we'd love it to have been Monday or Wednesday so we could have gone down and watched it.

"But we've wished them all the best, and I'm sure they'll give a great account of themselves."
