Michael Carrick praised the mindset of his Manchester United team as they held on to beat Everton at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, maintaining their record as the only unbeaten side in the Premier League in 2026.
Benjamin Sesko rescued Manchester United for the second game in a row with his fifth goal in six matches to earn an important three points for his side in the race for the coveted Champions League spot in the Premier League .
With the game heading into its final stages, both sides were looking to secure the win, but the Red Devils would strike on a blistering counterattack in the 70th minute.
Matheus Cunha picked out Bryan Mbuemo, who had made a great run on the right-hand side, racing away to the Everton box and was joined by Sesko, and the Slovenian international made no mistake, placing one first time into the bottom right corner to send the travelling United fans into bedlam to seal the three points.
Speaking to the press after the game, Carrick said his team were made to work for their win after claiming the three points away from home.
"It was tough, credit must be given to Everton who really put us through the wringer, the former midfielder said.
"The mindset with which we defended our box was exceptional.
"It is fantastic not to have conceded a goal.
"We can play better, but we are very pleased with the victory.,
"But it was pleasing to come away from home and win 1-0."
Carrick added, "I have been coming to Everton a long time, I have never had an easy game where it all clicks here, so I was not surprised.
"It was one of those nights for us; we had to dig deep, it was a bit of a struggle, and sometimes those are the best wins to get."
