Nick Woltemade
Newcastle, United Kingdom – 10 21 2025: Jacob Murphy and Nick Woltemade seen during Champions League league phase game between Newcastle United FC and SL Benfica
Bayern Munich have not been in contact with Nick Woltemade since he joined Newcastle United in the summer transfer window.
That’s according to Abendzeitung Munchen. The newspaper dismisses rumours of a potential move from Bayern Munich this summer after ‘wild rumours’ about him.
Reports have linked Woltemade with an exit from Newcastle following a difficult few months at St James Park for him.
He started life in England on fire with four goals in five games following his €75m move in the summer but he has only manage three in 19 games since.
Newcastle United struggles
That’s seen Eddie Howe drop him out of his side with more regularity, opening the door to exit talks. One rumour in England suggested that Newcastle United were open to a sale. It then named Bayern as one of the potential buyers.
But according to AZ’s information, ‘there is no truth to the story’. There has been no contact between Bayern bosses and Woltemade’s camp since he joined Newcastle. These are just ‘wild rumours’ at best.
The 24-year-old wants to fully focus on Newcastle a then the World Cup with Germany this summer. What happens after that remains to be seen.
There is a ‘great deal of mutual respect’ between the two sides. Bayern would have liked to sign Woltemade from Stuttgart in the summer. But the transfer fell through because of the latter’s demands, which Newcastle met.
That left Bayern frustrated. Honorary president Uli Hoeneß strongly advocated for Woltemade. In face, he personally promised the striker a deal. He, interestingly, isn’t one of the big name at Bayern to have publicly slated Woltemade, Newcastle or the move in the months since it.
Bayern Munich frustration
Sport Witness have covered that extensively, such as Max Eberl explaining how Newcastle wrecked their plans back in November.
Those who have spoken have made it clear that they’re over the disappointment and looking elsewhere. AZ’s information leans into that as well.
Although the newspaper does point out that the situation could change if Harry Kane doesn’t extend his contract. That expires in 2027 and a renewal is on the table. He has interest from Saudi Arabia and FC Barcelona.
For now, though, there’s no talks with Woltemade and there’s been no contact since he joined Newcastle either.
