Opinion: Everton star lost the ball 17 times vs Man United, he must be dropped

Thierno Barry has endured a very inconsistent start to his Everton career since joining from Villarreal last summer.

Barry didn’t score his first goal until December, and then he went on a brilliant run of form, netting five goals in nine games.

However, the Frenchman’s purple patch is now well and truly over, as he’s blanked in his last four outings.

What would your message to David Moyes be after the loss to United? 😡

Not only that, Barry’s overall game has been so poor, as he struggles to link the play and make the ball stick.

That’s evinced by one dreadful statistic that emerged following Everton’s 1-0 defeat to Manchester United last night.

Thierno Barry lost the ball 17 times during Everton vs Man United

Jarrad Branthwaite urged Everton forwards to improve after the defeat at the Hill Dickinson Stadium on Monday.

Barry, in particular, had a really poor game, and quite remarkably, he actually lost possession a whopping 17 times.

That’s according to Sofascore, who also recorded his passing accuracy at just 67%, which is quite concerning.

Is is time to drop Barry? 😬

Thierno Barry's statistics vs Manchester United.

The 23-year-old is a very limited footballer and it’s really costing Everton at the moment as they struggle to keep the ball at the top end of the pitch for sustained periods.

It’s surely time to drop Barry to the bench, with Beto or, even better, Braiden Graham given a chance moving forward.

Graham has scored 17 goals for the academy sides this season and has been training with Moyes’ first-team.

Alan Myers believes not signing a striker will cost Everton Europe

Moyes was ‘fixated’ on signing a striker in January, but the priorities shifted when Jack Grealish suffered a season-ending injury.

The decision not to sign a centre-forward now looks costly, and Everton News columnist Alan Myers believes it’ll result in missing out on Europe.

“It’s unfair to point the finger at young Thierno Barry and indeed Beto too, but I feel that my concerns – and that of many Evertonians – were not heeded and I firmly believe it will cost us the possibility of a place in Europe next season,” Myers wrote in his exclusive Everton column.

What did you make to George’s cameo? 🧐

Tyrique George stats vs Man United.

“There is a sense of frustration watching the likes of Iliman Ndiaye and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall struggling for an outlet when we go forward, even when the lively Tyrique George came on the problem persisted.

“I found myself at one point wishing we would put Michael Keane up front, especially after his tremendous shot which forced the best save of the match from the Manchester United goalkeeper.”
