Jacob Murphy was singled out for praise earlier by Arne Slot when asked why Alexander Isak had failed to hit the heights since his £125m move from Newcastle United to Liverpool.
Murphy managed 14 assists in all competitions last season and gelled with Isak. Slot had said: "It is obvious and clear that we have not the profile of Jacob Murphy"
Many Newcastle fans nicknamed Murphy as the charger to the iPhone when it came to Isak looking like a player lacking something. Murphy said at St James' Park last night: "Alex was was unbelievable when he was here and me and him had a very good connection. I’ve taken the same principles into this season. It’s also finding new solutions that work for myself and new team-mates and existing team-mates.
"Without constantly being able to train, you’re almost using the match minutes as training to try and find the solution, which can be difficult. We’re trying to find those solutions that work for everyone."
Murphy will now look to form partnerships with the likes of Nick Woltemade and Yoane Wissa with both struggling for service at times this season.
Murphy said: "Sometimes you need a little reset, see what everyone is saying, if there is a common theme.
"We’ve spoken about the “one brain thinking”. If you think about our top performances, everyone is in sync, thinking collectively on the same page - when we’re pressing, when we’re sitting off.
"Everything is done without a thought, but that is in sync and connected. That is something we have really been pushing in the last four games. It has been bearing fruit. We still think there is more for us to find and we can achieve that with this one-brain thinking."
Murphy is now a fully-fledged member of the leadership group behind the scenes at Newcastle and is one of the nominated public speakers at Press conferences and in mixed zones.
He said: "It feels amazing to have the leadership role. I've had some really good mentors over the years.
"Matt Ritchie is one. He was amazing for me and I sort of took a lot from him.
"He was one of the first people I reached out to when I got elected into the leadership group and he said he had sensed those qualities in me from early on. It was a good achievement for me."
