Man Utd manage double-win feat only achieved once by the club in the Premier League since 2007/08

Manchester United have won away at Liverpool and Everton in the Premier League in 2025/26.

Michael Carrick led Manchester United to a 1-0 win over Everton, the club’s second win on Merseyside this season. Benjamin Sesko netted the winner after coming off the bench.

Back in October, Manchester United won 2-1 away to Liverpool. Ruben Amorim was in charge for that game, with Bryan Mbeumo and Harry Maguire scoring the goals.

It is very rare for United to win in the league at Liverpool and Everton in the same season. This is the first time in a decade.

Manchester United’s rare double win on Merseyside

The last time Manchester United won away at Liverpool and Everton in the Premier League in the same season was in 2015/16, when Louis van Gaal was in charge.

United won 3-0 away at Everton in October 2015. Morgan Schneiderlin, Ander Herrera, and Wayne Rooney scored the goals.

United beat Liverpool 1-0 at Anfield in 2016. Wayne Rooney scored the winner.

United have won away at Everton five times now since 2016. We have only beaten Liverpool once since then, the win earlier this season.

This has not just been a recent problem either. Winning away at Liverpool and Everton is a rare feat than even presented problems during the Sir Alex Ferguson era.

United’s 2015/16 double-win at Liverpool and Everton was the first time United had done it in the Premier League since 2007/08.

In that historic season, United won 1-0 at Everton with a goal from Nemanja Vidic. The 1-0 win at Liverpool came courtesy of a Carlos Tevez winner.

Ferguson did actually win at both venues during the 2011/12 season – but the victory at Liverpool was in the FA Cup, drawing the league game. We are looking at league doubles only.

Let us know why!

How many times did Ferguson do the league double on Merseyside

Legendary manager Sir Alex Ferguson managed the club between 1986 and 2013, and he only achieved this league double twice.

Aside from the 2007/08 season, the only other time Ferguson’s United won away at Everton and Liverpool in the league was in 1996/97.

In both seasons Manchester United won the league.

Van Gaal’s double in 2015/16 did not lead to the same success, with United finishing in sixth position. He did at least go on to win the FA Cup – also beating Everton in the semi-final that season.

These two wins in 2025/26 have helped United up to fourth place in the Premier League table. There is still work to do – but the team is on track right now for a strong finish.
